GhoulKid, I have checked out some of the tunes you mentioned and a couple of the groups that Gorg recommended in his post, and the music really isn't bad, and it has some nice hooks, but...

I fear you are going to think I am some sort of music elitist, or that I just don't know really good music, or that my tastes are just arbitrary and weird (which may be true for all I know), but...

as well written and well-performed as they are, they just don't have that certain something that I look for.

Take for instance, Bad Manners' MY GIRL LOLLIPOP.

It's a cover (with gender adjustments) of My Boy Lollipop, originally done by Millie Small (sweet little bit, she), which is on my Blip playlist, and I consider a vintage jewel.

They ramp up the ska/reggae foundation on it, they LOOK terrific, the video is cute enough, but as in almost every case of covers, it just doesn't do it for me (I have very few covers in my playlist). I much prefer the original.

I know, I know that what is at work here is personal taste, and that it is capricious and eccentric by nature, and I apologize that we don't have a commonality (I love it when I can share an enthusiasm for a piece of music with someone -- I was thrilled that you noted the Gore Gore Girls in a post).

And, yes, there are plenty of folks that don't share my love of the particular songs in my playlist. But occasionally when a person "reblips" one of my songs and comments that they "love it - thanks so much for finding this", I feel a great sense of pride and satisfaction.

As much as I hate to disappoint someone when I don't put one of their recommendations on my playlist, I have to stay true to my judgement about these things.

I will check out the other groups that Gorg has listed for me, and if you have any other tunes/groups you want me to check out, I would love to do that.

Please don't think too badly of me.
