Squashpants,I wasn't suggesting by my previous post that you deviate from your template of songs and pick songs by established artists. I was only stating what I feel is wrong with radio today. Even sattelite radio, like XM,will play the same songs in a rotation.
Classic rock stations are not much more,IMO,than top 40. They just play what the blind masses think they want to hear.
I do get a sense of what you're into. I do recommend you look into Gorgozillas recommendations, especially The Pipettes.
I do think you'd also like a song called "No surf in Cleveland" by The Euclid Beach band.
Another I'd recommend is "MY GIRL LOLLIPOP" by Bad Manners.
Both of these songs have a fun, catchy quality to them and almost non existant on the rock and roll radar.
No, GhoulKid, I didn't think you were suggesting I deviate from my approach, I was simply laying out again my philosophy for DJing, and making a disclaimer regarding my choices for playlist inclusions. I totally agree with your comments of the state of radio. I listen to a classic rock station, and they only ever play stuff that has reached the Top 40. They never play anything that you haven't heard over and over again ad infinitum. They don't seem to understand that after awhile, what was catchy and engaging becomes boring with repetition.

I will be doing playlist research today (songs that I think have potential, I launch onto the Blipscape to see what kind of response they get), and I will check out Gorgozilla's groups, and the others you mentioned in this post. Thanks very much for the input -- I haven't exhausted my various research resources, but it is always nice to get a recommendation "from the outside."
