Good point.  DETOUR actually benefits from its tawdry look.

But for me, when it comes to comics, it's more about what attracts my eye.  Maybe because I had an early interest in being a cartoonist.  

But back to good stories drawn by bad artists...

I always liked the stories by DC comics writer Bob Haney (he scripted the BRAVE AND THE BOLD team-ups in the 60's) but there was no question his stories took a huge leap when illustrated by Neal Adams.
