That's a great way to put it!

Funny thing about TAS's music. Both my uncle and my oldest sister, both born old enough to have seen TAS first run and with enough innate musical talent that I always respect their views, would in  describing TAS to me, mention how the TAS theme is the "Star Trek theme played backwards." And keep in my mind my sister was all of 9 or 10 when she told me that.

When I was Netflixing TAS a few years ago, I noticed quite a few musical cues that sounded to my tin ears, if not backwards, like the original series' music turned side ways. And I discovered I could not keep both the TAS music and it's analogous love action show music in my head at the same time! A couple of years on though, I couldn't hum the TAS Enterprise fan fare or show theme for you if my life depended on it (I can easily recall the "unique" action theme later played to death in Filmation's TARZAN!). I found that an interesting phenomena.  I suspect the bulk of TAS music is so closely based on the TOS music, the creative process involved a lot of cut and paste of sheet music and re-listening to the original scores until they came up with an oddly soulless but close match!
