True, I was all for bringing the aliens to earth or something, a few years later. But if they insisted on doing the whole crashlanding on a prison world thing, they could have found some way of getting some mileage out of Newt and Hicks. We're talking about a movie that was made after rejecting a previous idea of a wooden planet with windmills and monks, with yet another rejection being the aliens taking over people on a cellular level, a la The Thing, right down to a space station itself transforming into a gigantic intergalactic alien. If they were contemplating getting that cuckoo about it, they could have figured out something to do with Newt.
