My dear D. W.:

When I got home at noon today, I found that the mailman had delivered the mail and the mail included that Castle of Frankenstein magazine I'd paid $14.99 for because you'd recommended it.

I eagerly opened it, hoping to have again in my life the most influential magazine of my childhood. (And, yes, I considered Goofus and Gallant and Highlights for Children before I made that statement.)

Hm....

I used to think of you as an authority on all things monster-movie-related, but now I'm not sure what to think, for

THAT MAGAZINE IS EXACTLY THE ONE I OWNED WHEN I WAS A CHILD!!!!!

I can't believe I have it again! Yippee!

As I looked through it this afternoon, I had the weirdest feeling, for I knew EXACTLY what was going to be on the next page. I'd believed I'd looked through that magazine a zillion times when I'd been a kid, but I must have actually looked through it a gazillion, bazillion, cortillian, brazilian times, for I had that entire magazine imprinted in my head. I even recognized the ads, especially the ads for the 8mm films.

You know what's weird, though? If someone had asked me two weeks ago if I'd ever heard of Castle of Frankenstein, magazine, I would have said, "No." When you mentioned the name to me, it rang no bells. For the past 47 years, I've believed I'd owned an issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. I wonder why I memorized the contents of the magazine, yet forgot the name. Perhaps my older brother threw the magazine at me and ripped off its cover permanently before I'd memorized the name.

Thank you so much for finding that magazine for me. I knew I could count on you.

A big bloody hug with electrodes,
Gene
