My mother had the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals down pat.  But otherwise, I don't have a lot of vivid memories of my mother's cooking though she prepared meals for me and my siblings for a couple of decades.  When I was very young, around 5 or 6 years old, I remember we ate a lot of homemade fish croquets.

I _do_ remember her potato salad.  I'm sure most people would think it too bland but I could eat it by the bowlful.  It was simply big potato chunks, eggs and mayonaise served ice cold from the fridge.  It may have been more than that but all I could see and taste.

After my parent's divorce my mother had to get a job.  Cooking became problematic, her getting home right around the time three starving adolescent kids who could barely boil water were ready to eat.  So, she started to pick up take out.  Our very first take out meal was from Whataburger.  They used to have these barrel cups, a sort of tub really, with shaved ice and sweet Dr. Pepper.  This first meal coincided with the broadcast premiere of LOST IN SPACE.  (Another thread:  What Were You Eating When ____________ Premiered On TV?)

Weekend meals at my grandparents' home usually consisted of my grammy's delicious fried chicken.  The food was washed down with the best iced tea I've ever had.
