Great idea to kick-start a thread/theme on this intruiging subject, Bob: it's certainly been revealed recently on here that traditional cel animation has captured our hearts and minds [well, some of us, at least] to the same extent that other Fantasy subjects have easily managed.

Here's as good a place to start as any: [turn the sound off, it's the visuals that count here]:

The very first SILLY SYMPHONY, from 1929 if I'm not mistaken, and I've seen most of them on DVD, and this very first one was one of the very best in my view. Difficult to believe that such accuracy was attained in some of the shots: the sequence where the skeletons join hands and dance around in a circle is very expertly done, in the context of the period it was produced. If I recall properly, Iwerks drew the bulk of this short single-handedly, and if this is the case, I'm not surprized he was given the control of his own animation studio a few short years later: but where Iwerks went wrong after splitting from ex-partner Disney is is open to question......

'the horror..............THE HORROR!'
