I watched Gojira for the first time the other night. I've been a horror movie and classic monster fan ever since I can remember, but Godzilla never did it for me. There was never any humanity in the monster that I could relate to. Same with Creature from the Black Lagoon. Those movies always left me cold.

BUT Gojira, the uncut Japanese version blew me away. So dark, so real. I knew that Godzilla had an anti-nuclear theme to it, but I always felt it was just an excuse for monster fun. Man, Gojira was unrelenting in it's "reality" of the situation.

Coincidentally, I started watching it for research for a TV show episode that I'm writing with a Godzilla theme. Little did I know I would get something so oddly topical to meditate over.
