If you're talking about CG overkill like VAN HELSING, then I agree. That being said, any properly funded Doc Savage film made in the 21st century, would, by default, have to use computer effects. It'd be the only way to do it properly and be acceptable to modern audiences.

The Helldiver sub cruising beneath the polar ice... A zeppelin exploding as it's riddled by anti-aircraft guns...
lost civilizations... mad scientists employing world-shattering super-weapons...You simply couldn't make a movie today with these elements and not use CG.

Look at all the computer graphics so wonderfully employed in Jackson's KING KONG to recreate New York City of the 1930s... That's the way Doc's Big Apple should look!
