Been a fan of Doc Savage since I was 14 or so. Funnily enough, my first pulp novel was Kenneth Robeson's (Ron Goulart had replaced Lester Dent by this time I think,) The Avenger: The Purple Zombie. Remember, this was back when, if you liked a paperback, you could order more via the order form in the back of the book, at like .95 cents apiece! Anyway, after I'd some more of The Avenger, I finally got curious about the other character always referanced on the covers: "From the creator of Doc Savage!". So while I was at a drugstore I think it was, I saw a copy of Doc Savage: The King Maker. That book was my introduction to Doc's amazing adventures (pretty sure that one was a Dent book too), and I was hooked pretty quick. By the time I'd gotten 'round to Doc, it was the mid 1970s, and before I knew it, there was a movie coming out! Saw it in the theater, liked it fine, but even then I was sorry that they hadn't played it straighter. I still have this on VHS, and I watch it from time to time, and it still bugs me that they had basically all the elements for a great adventure flick, but some dumb suit decided it would work better as a kiddie flick.

Interesting call on the Rock, he's really sticking in my mind's eye as Doc now...
Joey-"Ross, I've got a science question for you".
Ross-"Science. Yes,I've heard of that".
Joey-"If the homosapiens are in fact, HOMO-sapiens, is that why they're extinct?"
Ross-"Joey, homosapiens are people!"
Joey-"Hey, I'm not judgin'."
