How about that coat hanger in Stanley's jacket? No explanation as to why it is there, it just is. I also noticed in the first scenes Stanley has a bandage on his finger and suddenly, it is gone. The first bit was intentional, but we weren’t supposed to notice the bandaged finger. It is in the English and the Spanish versions.
Another thing to look for in the Spanish is the receptionist seen through the doorway in the early scene in Ollie's office. She can't keep a strait face to save her life.
Yes. YES! I loved the small band in the background.
I have to say that I enjoyed BRATS quite a bit. I always did like that one, but I didn’t think I would this time around.
I was surprised that BEAU HUNKS did not click with me. That was one I really expected to like.
As an experiment today, I had a real good buddy over and I put on THE MUSIC BOX. He had never seen it. He is just a normal guy (unlike myself and most people on the boards!) whose comedy taste is SEINFELD, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and newer stuff like that (I like those show, too). I wanted to see how he reacted to Laurel and Hardy. He is about 10 years younger than I am and vaguely remembers seeing something with L&H when he was a kid.
Well, he was on the floor laughing! I then understood one of the things that works in that film because he kept shouting, “I know that piano case is going down those steps again!” I think it was the best use of “telegraphing” a laugh ever. It has actually gone up a few notches with me now. I even liked Billy Gilbert in it and I normally cannot STAND him.
I followed it with CHICKENS COME HOME, TWO TARS and THEIR PURPLE MOMENT and he left saying that he was a Laurel and Hardy fan for life. I am making him a copy of the complete works. He is an out-of-work graphic artist and he is going to make me nice slim line covers for my set that I put in chronological order. Should be a fun project.
