I had been reading the books since I was an early teen and had been waiting for a film or TV series (which had been announced) for years. I met George Pal at a Dallas convention where he ran a preview for DOC SAVAGE. Pal was "in-too-see-ass-tick" about the movie and all looked well. But I was bitterly disappointed upon seeing the complete film, not only for the comic approach taken but also for the TV movie budget and casting. I had no problem with Ron Ely, there couldn't have been an actor more physically suited to playing Doc than Ely at that time. It still could make a terrific film series.
