This story is mainly for BijouBob8mm.

My only direct e-mail correspondence with Derek Simmonds, the founder of Derann, was about five years ago and concerned a vintage Super 8 print of The Beast Must Die.

I asked him if the print being offered was full-length. He wrote back and said no, it was a cut-down and ran on four 400' reels. He then added the helpful tag, "Not for you, I think."

I had a lot of respect for Mr. Simmonds and felt a greater than usual sadness when he passed away. But his memory lives on with me, for to this day, whenever I see something I want but cannot have, I hear an imaginary West Midlands voice in my head say, "Not for you, I think."
