PARDON US:
Just before the boys escape there seems to be a scene missing. You never see them actually escape or how they do it. I know that, being the first feature, it was trimed many times even before it was released. The quality was not great on this one, but I heard the US Hallmark version was worse.
It was good to see June Marlowe (Miss Crabtree) in the one scene. Later it is a different actress being rescued by L&H. She is top billed after The Boys and she is only in the one scene so there must be a story there somewhere. None of the books I have mentions this cut or the lack of Miss Marlowe.
Man, I sure wish that the French version of PARDON US would be found. Karloff plays the Walter Long part so he must have a lot of scenes in it. I wonder if Karloff spoke French and that is why he was used in that verson over Long. Anyone know?
I am finding the talkies contain more clinkers than the silent films so far.
I have the first Hallmark/RHI set and the quality on most films there is sub-par. SONS OF THE DESERT was a tv print which is overexposed and has commercial fade outs! It must be oop as it is going for big bucks on Amazon. What a shame these films have fared so poorly in their own country.
ANOTHER FINE MESS is next on my list. The RHI version supposedly has the original opening with the two girls reading the titles.
Does this mean that the famous line "Another fine mess" IS actually spoken in an L&H film...but NOT BY L&H???
I can compare the 2 releases of this and will do so in my next post here.

3/2/11: You know, on looking at this that might be June Marlow in the burning house.  I'm just not used to seeing her in something that skimpy!
