I have to agree with you and August. Personally, I think Toho's in-house transfers look mediocre. The contrast and black levels are exceptionally low even for Japanese DVDs, many films are both overframed and windowboxed leading to wasted disk space on huge black borders, and if there isn't a yellow tint, then a green or brownish tint is in its place. Nearly every disk I've seen from them has also had some degree of noise reduction, too. I vastly prefer the Sony counterparts.

But that's not to say that I don't like any of their transfers. The HD transfers of THE MYSTERIANS, GHIDRAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER, and WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS look particularly good.
