Only the high profile film festivals serve that purpose, such as the Cannes, AFM, San Francisco International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, Rotterdam, etc., where distributors and studios are in attendance; not some fans who rent the movie for a local screening — not that there's anything wrong with that, but those aren't "film festivals" in the marketing sense. The difference is, that there were interested buyers at the AFM screening of YAMATO — I spoke to two of them afterwards — but it depends on how much TBS Films/Sedic International is holding out for vs. how much these potential buyers are willing to put out. With that being said, YAMATO has already been sold to France, Germany, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong, as of December. There are also other mitigating factors, including if Takuya Kimura's agency demands the film screen in theaters and not go straight-to-video, which is a very real possibility (according to discussions after the AFM screening). So, we'll just have to wait and see...
