I assume the alligators were fairly tame, probably resients of an alligator farm. There used to be one near Los Angeles. For scenes like this, the gator wranglers make sure the big guys have recently had a satisfying meal.

The gators were my main question about the film. They did look real to me too, so it must have been at least a little dangerous around the sets.  Beverly Garland bumps into them and almost steps on one or two in the dark. Would the gators have their mouths taped shut? Their dentures removed? As someone stated possibly drugged?  How do you keep a set safe with live gators on the loose?
