I think there will be some fun to be had with the Spanish versions. There are no available English subtitles though, right?

Last night I watched more shorts, and while a couple of them looked good (THICKER THAN WATER and ANOTHER FINE MESS for instance), I am distressed to find that others can be pretty tattered, moreso that the ones I'd recorded off TCM. The audio of the first reel of HELPMATES was rough... so these are all a mixed bag. I'm glad we're getting the original title cards, but if I have to make do with some of these movies having a FILMLAND CLASSICS re-issue title, as long as the overall film is in better quality, I wouldn't mind.

I've watched a couple of silent L&H's for the first time and I think they're greatly helped out to go down pleasantly by the Beau Hunks' CD music soundtrack, which replicates the classic Leroy Shield scores. The quality of the silents seemed to be quite rough, and I have read that none of the silent copies on this collection are as good as the ones that were issued on the old, out of print IMAGE discs.

WAY OUT WEST -- this looks very good, and so I'm a little mixed up here. I scanned through the whole movie, checking for what I read in a thorough disc-by-disc online review was allegedly "too dark" quality.... but I found this film looked GREAT! Also, I went ahead to the "Lonesome Pine" song, because I'd read numerous times that there was a "nasty splice" there. Well, I watched the entire song, and NO, there was NOT any splice there at all! This leads me to wonder if some of these transfers were re-done after their original run 7 years ago in the first boxed set???? There is that disc-by-disc review I've mentioned, and so far I am not finding all of the reviewer's opinions to match what I'm seeing. (I went to his review of HELPMATES after watching it, where I was bothered by a rather rough soundtrack for most of the first reel... and I am rarely bugged by sound troubles .... but his review makes exceptional note of the sound being very good!).

Here's the link to that thorough disc-by-disc review:
