I have that disc, but obviously I've never seen it any other way. You know, I have a shaky relationship with the PAL issue. I wanted to be a complete nay-sayer ('No difference at all!'), and I struggled on that point for some time. But the thing is, it's really tough to parse the issue when this is the way you grew up with this stuff, right? If you look at it as an issue it's a bit confusing. Now I still don't think it's MAJOR by any means (4%, do the math!), but coming to terms with it -- it's apparent in most cases. Actors badly affected: Christopher Lee, Orson Welles, Vincent Price, offhand. Distinctive voices. Vinnie squeaks a bit at times. Blu Ray and the like steps over this problem -- the future is this not being an issue anymore. Personally I think they should've ditched it for DVD; and I think right now, there's no point releasing SDs in PAL -- the number of people who can't play NTSC at this point is minuscule. (A lot of music artists, inc Bjork and Tori Amos, have indeed used NTSC on their UK releases where preserving musical integrity is important. More power to them.) I didn't even really 'get' this problem till 6-7 years ago and from there I took quite a while to get my head around it... if you live in a PAL country, it's kind of a mind-f'k.

So, I'll buy these discs if there's no afforable or available alternative. Suppose my collection might lean 60/40 in favour of NTSC.

L&H set a good buy because it's cheap. BTW, it's been pretty cheap for quite a while now. I get the distinct impression it didn't sell that well, ditto the individual discs. I hope I'm wrong, but I took it as a sad statement on the receded interest in such things (i.e. old-time comedy, etc) -- the singles were going for like £4-5 each only a few months after they came out (2004, IIRC) -- a year or two later, even before DVD started really slumping, you could grab them for £1.50 or less quite easily. (And I did. I waited, because I'm always low on money.)

More than that issue, BTW, I shall warn you that the B&W version of Pardon Us has the silent 'extra' footage spliced-in (and it WRECKS the continuity, it was from a different foreign cut; also exceedingly dreadful, faked-up looping on it) and that's the only version. Well, the 'colour' version is okay. But I was VERY angry they didn't provide an option not to view it that way... interesting as it is, it just does not belong in the US cut of the movie.
