I deleted a post above where I originally said that yesterday I played a little of my R2 disc of HOUSE OF DRACULA and I didn't notice any PAL effects. Boy, was I wrong!

I will admit it wasn't a fair analysis because I was tired and nodding off throughout the bits I watched, so I must have not been alert enough. Because last night I thoroughly watched the entire film, and I felt like I was running a race or something. Really! I felt like I was being "rushed" through the movie - not a good feeling. I am very familiar with the audio and video of HOUSE OF DRACULA, it's etched into my brain. The PAL speed-up was truly noticeable and somewhat distracting for me, and I never got used to it, sad to say. I had a feeling this would be the case for me, at least with regard to titles I've already known by heart. Onslow Stevens' voice was really noticeably higher-pitched. But for Lon Chaney and John Carradine, their deeper voices seemed less affected, and I hardly spotted a change.

But yes, I could detect that the physical character and camera movements were slightly faster. And that dear old beloved Universal music score --- oh, brother! It sounded like some sort of hybrid version, as if a band had come in to try and somewhat recapture the original flavor of the soundtrack!

And here I have already leapt in blindly and ordered a lot of stuff, including some other Universals and Hammers on R2. Oh well.... I'm going to take this on a case by case basis and see how it goes.

A question I have for others - do you notice this speed-up in things you're strongly familiar with? For Rakshasa, I'm curious to know if the KOLCHAK series felt different for you, especially the audio portions and theme music, which you know and enjoy so much by heart?
