The image is a little brighter and less compressed-looking, they are also minus some digital fade-in/fade out stuff done on the US set.

Most importantly, the are on single-sided DVD-9's, my US Nightstalker's were a mess of freeze-ups and stutters. 

This notion of DVD-R back-up is a bit overrated as well. For one, on dual-layer DVDs, you have to have dual-layer DVD+R's, otherwise you're compressing the image into half the space. These DVD-18's are dual-layer on each side. Also, if a disk is truly shot, it's not going to give an acceptable copy. Some of my early DVD-R's are not playable on my computer, which makes a second back-up impossible.
