I remember this as part of the era (kickstarted mainly by STAR WARS and ALIEN) when big-budget monster and sci-fi movies started coming into the mainstream, which I found enormously exciting. AWIL and THE HOWLING, both robust, full-blooded monster movies, were a thrill to see on the big screen. AWIL was one of the very first movies I bought on videotape--I think I paid about 80 bucks for it. I prefer the werewolves and makeup effects of THE HOWLING, but AWIL still has a special nostalgic place in my heart.

"I saw this in a walk-in theater in Waikiki back in 1981. I enjoyed the film."

It may have been the same theater where I saw DAWN OF THE DEAD and ALIEN one summer when I was visiting my brother in Honolulu.

Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.
