Also, I've been hearing rumors about L & H sets getting a US release for a decade, actually rumors with more to substantiate them than this guy's detail-less tease. The further we get into this DVD slowdown the less and less I buy them. If Turner had shown brand new transfers, then maybe it would give me pause, but they didn't. At any rate, you'd be looking at a $200 set for the same material, maybe even minus the silents (some of which are a hoot).

Hopefully a US set would also be minus the colorized shorts! Grin  What a waste of space... without those, a US set probably wouldn't be that pricey. But even if it was, I'd pay that just to get the material on R1.

I have never been very interested in silent L&H, and I've gone on record as saying this for years. I just think a huge part of why Oliver Hardy is so funny is because of his voice and his delivery.  Now, don't get me wrong -- I'd still welcome the silents as part of the entire package where I can get them. But if a US set arrived with only the talkies, that'd be fine with me.

And the Spanish versions of some of their films? I would never watch them except for a minute or two just to get a brief example of Stan and Ollie speaking a foreign language phonetically.

But yes, I am rationalizing. And while I'm at it, I really don't like that those darn shorts are scattered all about on different discs.

Buy hey, who knows? One day soon you may just see a post from he here saying I ordered this thing and went region free.
