What's really so hard for me to resist about getting this set is the current bargain price, which is a steal! But I'm starting to wonder if part of the reason it's now so cheap is precisely because there WILL be a US version coming very soon, and so the company knows they'd better try to sell off whatever stock they have of the UK version while they can still get fans to bite?

It's still not worth having more than one machine in my setup, just for L&H movies.

MYSTO -- I am unable to do transfers of this for myself on computer; that is so say, I'm clueless about such things.
No, that set periodically dips down into this price-range, then goes up again. The 21-disk Hammer set is also 79% off, and that's got nothing to do with our market either. For some reason Universal owns the rights to the British DVDs, but they don't hold them here, if they're dumping the set, they just don't want those huge boxes hogging space wherever they got'em, the individual disks still cost two to three times as much.

Also, I've been hearing rumors about L & H sets getting a US release for a decade, actually rumors with more to substantiate them than this guy's detail-less tease. The further we get into this DVD slowdown the less and less I buy them. If Turner had shown brand new transfers, then maybe it would give me pause, but they didn't. At any rate, you'd be looking at a $200 set for the same material, maybe even minus the silents (some of which are a hoot).
