I'm not sure how, but I seem to have accidentally skipped over some folks responding, so let me make amends.

Geezer - that sounds impossibly good, and I may just die imagining what those dishes tasted like, especially the Maul Tasche.

Liz - dessert must have been like dying and going to Heaven at your house!

Cranston - you've got my mouth watering now. I'd love to try pierogies.

Rvoy - When I was a teen, I was in the Civil Air Patrol, and occasionally we would have weekend encampments at one of the local Air Force bases. We ate at their mess, and I was always very favorably impressed with the cooking. I can imagine how good that pie was!

John - yes, that is the downside of all this good cooking, and it is a real shame that your Mom had to give it up -- I can hardly believe it, but it has to be true: some things are more important than eating well. BTW, the meatballs sound delicious! I don't think I would completely eliminate the milk from Kraft Mac & Cheese, but I could see reducing it and adding more butter.

Reegs - 1 and 2 sound pretty good, but 3 sounds like to die for! May have to try making that.

One for the road: My dad had a few things that he cooked that made him a king, and one of them was a chicken fricasee. Basically pan-cooked chicken that he then dumped into a pot and made a brown gravy from. I have never been a fan of brown (beef) gravy, but this was a chicken-based gravy and it was nothing short of irresistible on a pile of white rice.
