I really appreciate all the responses you guys have posted!

BobZ: I would have been a blimp if I had grown up in your household! And loving every minute of it! I love the schedule and what great choices for the end of the week meals. I bet you miss that dearly.

Rvoy: Hmmm, well, that is a head-scratcher. I suppose she could have accomplished it by basting, maybe filling the bottom of the pan with a solution of sugar and spices and then let the heat vaporize it and baste with the unevaporated portion. I can just imagine the smell of it -- ahhhh.

Ishogirl: "saurkraut and weiners, pigs in the blanket, etc" - Those are highly serviceable, IMO. I would not have turned them down in a second. Oooh, goulash! Makes my mouth water too.

LadyTot: forgive me for overlooking you last time around. Homemade pies to die for. The ones in the store look good, but they don't taste nearly as good as the ones made at home from scratch. I have never heard of a marrow/matzoh ball soup, but it doesn't seem at all far-fetched, especially with the facts you have given. It really made a difference to you as a young 'un?

Hope more of the folks on the board will hold forth on this subject. It's fun and appetizing!
