Great responses, you Guys. My mouth is watering!
Let me respond in reverse order:
Spoiler: Absolutely no justification needed for being nostalgic about Kraft Cheese and Noodles. It is one of the real treasures of box-prepared dishes. So impossibly good and comforting, all by itself. The way you talk about your wife's turkey makes me wish I had a seat at your TG day table!
Geezer: That sounds delish! Y'know, I never could bring myself to even try sauerkraut as a youngster, and was not inclined to as an adult, but when one of my friends made it along with mashed potatoes, and encouraged me to mix the two, I was converted. And so fragrant!
Rvoy: It is sad to realize what we have lost, because very few cook like our moms, aunts, and grans did. The dish you describe sounds like Starch Heaven (and I don't by any means mean that disparagingly). And homemade pancakes and waffles, oh God!
What a lucky kid you were.
ScareBear: Now, you are reminding me of my Granny's cooking -- Grandad and she were poor (he was a junkman!) and they grew a lot of what they ate. Her pinto beans were to die for, and the sour milk biscuits she made each morning were out of this world. And tomatoes right from the garden sprinkled with salt -- ooh, baby.
Grant: Roast pork and sweet potatoes sounds just right to me. Nothing like a properly cooked piece of pork, and sweet potatoes, especially when buttered generously, are so delicious.
BP: Mmmmm, cornbread stuffing. All of my aunts on my Dad's side of the family made this from the same recipe and it was heavenly. I would have been happy just feasting on it, and to heck with the turkey! I love biscuits and gravy, and can still get a decent version of it from the local Whataburger. But no one made sausage gravy like my Mom did. And also gravy with chipped beef! "The world's most delicious chicken spaghetti..." -- I could go for some of that right now!
Please don't be shy, you other guys. Come on and share!
