The first Superman/Spider-Man teamup was presented as such a big deal that it appeared in a giant size, bigger than LIFE magazine.  Gerry Conway wrote it, but was very cagey about the details before it appeared.  Like a lot of comics fans, I was mad with curiosity as to how he would set things up so that Superman COULD meet Spider-Man.  He took a very ingenious route, one I never would have thought of: they've always lived on the same world, they just never ran into each other before.  The sheer, elegant simplicity of that really impressed me.
I had this as a kid in the '70s.  I liked how the heroes fought each others' respective arch villains.  Batman teamed up with The Hulk shortly thereafter.
