2001 is one of those movies I don't talk about that much because if everything that's implied or indicated were made blatant, you'd get 2010.

If you pay attention and think while watching it, I don't think there are so many mysteries in this that you can't figure it out.

I have read countless comments and reviews by people who defend some piece of garbage by saying it's a good popcorn movie if you just want to turn off your brain and have fun. Yet I wonder how many movies where you're required to think a little those folks actually watch. It doesn't seem to me that people are being exhausted by all these intellectual exercises they're somehow forced to watch all the time.

2001 is one of the few movies that is without peer. It's not a 'favorite' movie of mine--I don't watch it frequently--but I admire and respect those who created it, because it is a work of art that is a part of my memories. The only other movie that impacted me the way this one did was CITIZEN KANE, in that both movies really altered what I thought movies were about, what they could do, and how well they could be made on a technical level (particularly in terms of sound, something that in both cases can be overlooked due to their magnificent visuals). And both movies are cool or cold toward the people in them, and that's entirely acceptable.
