Apparently then London After Midnight was the second highest money maker of Chaney's career and a tie with Phantom Of The Opera as far as box office grosses.

Ahhhh... but it wasn't.  I got those figures from Michael Blake's Chaney bio; but Blake only lists the production costs and the profit.  He doesn't list the actual box office grosses.  So, a film like POTO, which cost a lot more than LAM, had to make more money to break even and then make a profit.

Here are the production cost/profit figures.  I'll let the accountants figure out the (approximated) total grosses.

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA- cost $632,357; profit $539,682
TELL IT TO THE MARINES- cost $433,000; profit $664,000
MR. WU- cost $267,000; profit $439,000
LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT- cost $152,000; profit $540,000
LAUGH CLOWN, LAUGH- cost $293,000; profit $450,000
WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS- cost $259,000; profit $399,000

As a footnote, LAM was the second cheapest film Chaney made for MGM, with only THE UNHOLY THREE ('25) costing less.
