Real, real hardcore cinephiles would probably rather see the complete GREED or MAGIFICENT AMBERSONS, or even Jerry Lewis's THE DAY THE CLOWN CRIED. I myself am kind of curious as to what the original PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC would have looked like, because apparently Carl Dreyer pieced the one we know together from outtakes after the original was destroyed by a spiteful editor.

However, LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT reigns supreme as the most sought-after silent film in pop culture and film fandom, if not within academia. It has a totally badass title, it was a collaboration between Chaney and Browning, in a vampire film, making it a sort of pre-DRACULA. Those publicity stills of Chaney making those faces are as scary as anything I've ever seen, and his vampire character is at least as iconic as the Phantom, the Hunchback, or any other character he ever played.

Even if critics at the time had said that it's not a masterpiece of a film, wanting to see it has taken on an aura almost like believing in Santa Claus among movie fans.
