I guess they are an acquired taste. I probably would like them if I`d seen them when I was a kid.
The only way to get anything out of this movie is to watch it on Mischief Night with a couple of kids--I just showed it to a 7 year-old and a 8 year-old who loved it; we drank apple cider and ate roasted pumpkin seeds and popcorn. They were totally into it-- they giggled and got scared & huddled up to each other during the "scary" parts and jumped off of the couch in excitement during the robot vs. gorilla fight scenes (Steve Calvert's gorilla work was amusing). The 7 year-old was especially taken with Ellen Corby's man-eating tree.

I kept trying to picture what it would've been like to have seen it in a cinema on a Saturday afternoon in October 1954 with a bunch of kids hopped-up on candy and pre-Halloween excitement-- now THAT must've been a hoot!
