Not really. In this case, I'm gauging it against what was regularly being lampooned in comedies as histrionic dialog and strictly what came before it in film-making, which is why I pointed out Mamoulian's APPLAUSE in comparison used similar camera techniques more effectively. Mamoulian's curse seems to be exactly that—the man had technique, but sometimes had difficulty choosing when to dole it out. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
