Wow, beggar, your post makes me feel like I've dropped onto the Bizarro world.  I've never, never ever ever, seen any acclaim for the '41 version to match that for the '31.  Of course, there are those who like one and those who like the other.  But, to my eyes, in all that I've read--and that's a lot-- the great preponderance of approval is for the March over the Tracy.  Matter of fact, every time someone pops up around here to champion the MGM version, I'm surprised because I always think of it as such a minority opinion.  Maybe I'll have to dip into my books, do a little head-counting on those 'expert' opinions.

edit:  just re-read your last post, beggar.  I think you're spending too much time reading the IMDB comments.  3/4s of those people are insane.  I've started keeping a list of movies that folks over there consider the 'worst movie I've ever seen!'  It's unbelievable.  Believe me, most of those commentators are nuts.
