I remember seeing "Atlantis" as a kid, both at the theater and on a neighbor's color TV (when color TV was a big deal).

What I am curious about is how they staged the submarine sequences. No doubt, it is highly unlikely that they used a full-size submarine with modifications, but it sure as hell looked like it to my eyes. Now, yeah, I was a kid, and naturally applied a lot of suspension of disbelief to what I was seeing, but even so, I remember the scenes with the submarine circling the raft with the protagonists on it, surfacing, etc., and I will be damned if it did not look like they were filming a full-size submarine in action.

I haven't read any comments on how they did the effects re:submarine, but I believe they were very competently done, however they did it.

The throbbing growl of the submarine's motors was very effective, as well. The whole effect was very satisfying, and added greatly to the overall believability of the wonders of the "paleo-advanced" civilization.

The movie is a wonder world of special effects miniatures.

Though, it is a bit hard to get past Edward Platt in one of those silly hats.
