I've seen The Meddlers and I'm almost positive this is the one, from Lights Out, as it fits Skel's description, and it's a pretty decent entry in the series, though like so many shows of its era it has a rushed feel (taped live?,--it sure feels like it).

It's interesting to compare the very early near Stone Age shows that survive from the early years of network television to what was being done in the same vein ten to fifteen years later. Those horror and suspense series aren't bad, are not at all like the filmed shows from later on. A good deal of their eerieness comes from their being early television, which sort of created its own Twilight Zone.
