Ever since I once read a book on "fuzzy logic" (a pretty serious branch of math), I've pretty much given up on categorizing any given film as "science fiction" on a binary yes ("1') or no ("0") basis.

Examples:

- Some have made the case that all movies are science fiction in a sense because they exist only in an alternate reality. Maybe we're talking a .001 on the fuzzy scale.
- I've seen A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court listed as science fiction because of the unexplained time travel. Might rate it a .6 or .7.
- A Trip to the Moon: even this "first" science fiction film has fanciful transformations of chairs into telescopes, faces on the planets and stars, etc. 100% science fiction?  Not to me. Maybe a .8 cuz of the overall theme.
- Destination Moon, Things to Come, Blade Runner, Contact, etc., etc: I'd rate them pretty close to a 1.00

As for the Bond films what with all of the futuristic gadgetry, I'd say somewhere around a .5.

Fuzzy Logic is actually great. And it sure helps you dodge the issue, don't it?!?!?
