The Tezuka Mechagodzilla movies are very, very routine and dull. They're not that bad, but they're not that good either. They're like soap operas with good FX scenes. At least Final Wars has strong "so bad its good entertainment value". I agree, they would be way better cut into one two hour film.

Yeah, it's weird. They don't even generate anger, like what a bad movie, it's more a lack of any emotion. They also suffer from having cool ideas and never exploring them. I will say that if the Haywire MG, which was dropped quickly in the first movie, was at least brought back into the second movie. Both movies combined with credits are 179 minutes. Chopping out duplicate credits brings it to 169. I have to imagine within that 169 minutes a decent movie could be crafted. The most work you would have to do is changing the background score and maybe some linking narration or text, just give it the Shogun Assassin treatment.
