movies are very, very routine and dull. They're not that bad, but they're not that good either. They're like soap operas with good FX scenes. At least
Final Wars
has strong "so bad its good entertainment value". I agree, they would be way better cut into one two hour film.
Megaguiras
is probably my second favorite Millenium entry after
GMK
, but that isn't saying much. It's a mess, but is at least above average and tries to take the series in some semblance of an original direction, but sadly whenever Toho introduces a new monster they seem to get diminished box office returns.
And yeah, gorgo, it's always been very obvious to me that Mothra and King Ghidorah are "playing Varan and Anguirus' original parts". It's like they just exed their names out of the script practically and put "Mothra" and "Ghidorah". I don't know why they didn't at least let Kaneko keep Anguirus as he's if anything more popular than Baragon. It would be a worthy opponent to Honda's original if only Toho had let Kaneko have his way on the monsters and the spring release date so the FX work wouldn't be rushed. The film's flaws are in my mind all Toho's fault.
