It is a very contradictory film.  It looks low budget yet has many fine special effects.  The lead hero and heroine are wooden and unappealing but are surrounded with a very interesting supporting cast of character actors.  Paul Frees narrates the opening then loops Wolfe Barzell and Edgar Stehli.  Russell Garcia's score is fine.  Imaginative use is made of QUO VADIS stock footage, but in the fire/water pit sequence little is done to match the set to the older footage.  Although based on Gerald Hargreaves' musical play from the 1940s, many of the ideas in it remind me of Edgar Cayce's descriptions of Atlantis.  I realize it's not a good film but I enjoy it anyway.
