One of the ever-popular CHFB lurkers e-mails me.....

<< Having sat in a room with my idol Mr. Bradbury on more than one occassion and talked politics I became uncomfortably aware that he is a raging ultra-conservative, all-for-the-people with resources and power, perpetuate the status quo, turn back the clock bastion of the Old Ways -- nothing futuristic and progressive about him -- more Orwellian than you could imagine. People call Heinlein right-wing who don't know how to read him -- he was an Old Virtues guy who believed in Human Dignity and Freedom, and the need to bear arms and FIGHT for those freedoms -- Bradbury stunned me by wanting a Big Brother paternalistic government, all things decided for you -- why do you think he LOVES Walt Disney World and was brought in to help plan Epcot and all the other totalitarian ideas of WDC -- he's one of those, like Forry, who bought into THINGS TO COME between the wars and felt that THEY knew what the world needed, goddam it, to make it work -- and as Ted pointed out, most of the best of Bradbury is actually recherche longing for a lost past, not forward-looking to a real future. This is the guy who petulantly accused Michael Moore of stealing his title -- FAHRENHEIT 451 vid FAHRENHEIT 911 -- the same writer who appropriated titles for his books Golden Apples of the Sun (William Butler Yeats), I Sing the Body Electric (Walt Whitman), etc, etc. <
