Given his horrible demise it is difficult to provide an honest appraisal of F. Gwynplaine McIntyre's recent claim to fame without appearing callous. Suffice to say he achieved notoriety by penning reviews of lost silent-era films claiming to have seen them. I had a brief email exchange with McIntyre many years ago regarding the circumstances surrounding his amazing good fortune tracking down these lost films. I recall his response was lengthy and very entertaining. It read like a novel.
