SMUGGLER'S COVE is this Saturday; this is one that I remember seeing as kid on Channel 5 as a kid and liking, so I'm curious to see how it stands up.

Sadly, it didn't stand up very well... It must've been all that "old dark house" stuff in the Bayshore mansion that held my attention as a kid: Martin Kosleck's night-shrouded face appearing outside of second-floor bedroom windows, a secret passage behind the fireplace (cf., THE HOUSE OF FEAR [1945]; THE BLACK SLEEP), tunnels in the walls, sliding panels, portrait paintings with spy-holes, a hidden radio room and dungeon, a seaside cave attached to the house, et al. But overall I found the going here to be kind of limp. And the Three Stooges sound-effects during the final fight scenes were very annoying.

I was also struck by how much Paul Harvey (as Type-A Personality businessman Terrence Mahoney, Esq.) sounded like "Inner Sanctum"-era Lon Chaney, Jr. ... weird....
