WTF? I never said anyone lied... Going from publicity departments "exaggerating" to the Toho's Overseas Advertising Department "lying", is really a stretch, don't you think, GPO? That's what PR departments do—they exaggerate their properties to get people into theaters. Toho and Universal called KING KONG VS. GODZILLA "The Battle of the Century!", for example. When haven't PR people grossly exaggerated the films they are hawking? One campaign for GODZILLA screamed, "Makes KING KONG look like a MIDGET!" The ad campaign for RODAN shouted, "More startling than Jules Verne!", MOTHRA claimed it was "Ravishing a Universe... for love!", etc., etc., ad infinitum. Japanese studios made similar claims in their own territories. No lying, but there was quite a bit of literary license at hand in those days, which would fly in this day and age.

Anyhow, that last bit I posted was a freakin' trifle, I said as much, and you're taking it to task—at length? It wasn't an argument at all, it was a pondering! Of course I read Steve's book, too. But, again, I did preface that passage with "For the sake or argument, it could be also extrapolated that it is possible..." But, at the same time, you believe every word in Steve's book, but I'm in question, when I have as much cred as he does? Yes, Toho had, and still has, Far East territorial rights for KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (Universal owns the North American and European territorial rights into perpetuity, along with KKE). You are also aware that there are Asian territories where English is their primary or unifying language, such as the Philippines and Hong Kong? So, that's why an English synopsis for KING KONG VS. GODZILLA would be in "Toho Films Vol. 8", which is a sales brochure—it's advertising to all overseas interests, specifically the Far East. Otherwise, why did they bother to publish it?

Many Japanese companies used to publish such brochures to promote their films at international film and trade shows, such as MIFED and Cannes, etc. (I used to write to the various studios and they would send these to me and other people who asked for them). Just because the brochure in question was published (dated August of 1963), doesn't mean that it wasn't written long before that, or appeared in Vol. 7 (or an earlier edition, assuming that this was a quarterly)? Also, is the date the date that it was out, or the date until the next edition was to be released, as was common with publications at the time? These are other factors that must be answered before you mark them as concrete. These are just things to take into consideration.

Now, I haven't been nasty towards you... If you can be civil, I will post scans of the aforementioned Japanese Press/Advertising materials and read the script in more detail and transcribe my findings, here. If you cannot agree to be civil and continue to give me a hard time, then we need go no further. It's interesting being in such a debate with someone who is largely anonymous to me, who is free from such branding because he conceals himself by a handle. A mask of sorts. Conversely, I've always used my real name, because I stand behind whatever I say online, good or bad, and am responsible for it. Right or wrong, I own it. So, are you willing to put down your sword and take a deep breath, and continue as gentlemen? Or should we just end this here? It's your move.
