I've already explained this, but on KING KONG VS. GODZILLA, John Beck (who brought the project to Toho) had Toho front the money to license King Kong from RKO to the tune of 80 million yen (approximately $250,000 USD in 1962, adjusted to current inflation would be $1.8 million USD), which was three times the cost of the average Toho production at the time. Because of this, the budget for the film was slashed, and the plans to shoot on location in Sri Lanka were scrapped. And so, the infamous Kong suit wasn't up to the par of what Toho's prosthetics team could accomplish, due to the budget restrictions (still, the made two individual suits). As for KING KONG ESCAPES, the head of the primary costume was designed to resemble it's cartoon counterpart from the Rankin/Bass KING KONG SHOW. The secondary Pantomime Kong suit, was cobbled together from one of the KING KONG VS. GODZILLA suits and some stultifying Mardi Gras head. I can't explain that one... Not yet, anyhow.
