I have nothing but admiration for what Castle of Frankenstein / Druktenis Publishing did with their magazine versions back in 2004 (?), but as Don said we are publishing these as "Collector's" edition books.
I have re - typeset and edited the text, making it an easy-to-read-and-enjoy experience and correcting previous versions. As with BROTHER BLOOD, Don will go through it all personally making sure it's what he envisions. We are formatting the books in a manner similar to our BROTHER BLOOD book (5.25 x 8") - larger than a paperback, smaller than a pulp magazine. Think of them as "DVD size." Editorially, I approach these new editions as "movies within the covers of a book," and myself not necessarily as a book publisher but a book "producer." (to use another film metaphor).
BB clocked in at around 370 pages. The FRANKENSTEIN series will each be around 250 pages each of story plus our extras features.
Our covers are by renowned artist Mark Maddox whose work you've seen on the cover of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS magazine as well as the recent best-selling SHERLOCK HOLMES book from Cornerstone book Publishers.
(Check out his work here: www,maddoxplanet.com) Each cover will be like a pulp in that the art will capture an exciting/horrifying/momentous scene from the story.
Don has provided me with a wealth of background material including photos of him and Forry, essays, articles on the series, and a few other surprises. In addition we'll have behind-the-scenes features on Mark's cover art process and essays on some of the other classic monsters that appear in the series written by some people you may know from movies, books and so forth. We want these books to live up to the term "collector's editions."
In addition - we'll soon be offering inexpensive digital versions for the e-reader/fan who has a Kindle or E-reader and wants to join in on the fun, but doesn't necessarily "collect.". And if the demand is there we will create other merchandise based on the series and artwork: t-shirts, calendars, posters, trading cards, and so on. I've already had some inquiries regarding posters. Pulp 2.0 Press aims to offer fans not only the books, but the experience.
Again, I have nothing but admiration and respect for the "Tomes." I'm writing this to clarify what OUR approach is to the material.
