1. There were nine featurettes produced, the first six were two-parters, the last three were stand-alones. The last two were shot in scope.
2. The first six two-parters were combined into three feature-length movies: ATOMIC RULERS OF THE WORLD (or ATOMIC RULERS), INVADERS FROM SPACE, and ATTACK FROM SPACE. These were all cut to conform to a certain length, and resulted in a lost of ten-to-twenty minutes from the respective featurettes. The last three were cut into one film, which took action scenes and narratives, and resulted in THE EVIL BRAIN FROM OUTER SPACE.
3. They were released on VHS in the early 1980s, and then on DVD, twice in the early 2000s. Now OOP.
I wrote an extensive article on the films for
Planet X
magazine in the late 1990s, "The Original Starman: The Forgotten Supergiant of Steel Who Fought for Peace, Justice and the Japanese Way", which was later expanded and updated as an Extra Feature for inclusion on the Something Weird Video releases of the films in the early 2002. The Wikipedia entry on the films is largely based on my writing:
