Again, I mention the fact that not all of the Kong effects use animation -- there is that big mechanical bust and hand, which in no way match up with stop-motion shots. And also that Harryhausen used stop motion, mechanical figures and guys in costumes for the monsters in some of his movies.

I'm glad this discussion came up, too. Now I'm not saying that the figure climbing the ESB is a guy in an ape suit. I'm just saying that every time I see that shot -- and, again, I've seen it many times on the big theatre screen in 35mm -- it's looked more to me like an ape-suited person than a stop-motion model.
