You know, I've seen KING KONG on the big theatre screen in 35mm many times -- and, though this will sound like heresy, that shot always looked to me like a guy in a suit, too. Then the Buzz Gibson photo turned up, and showed that I was wrong.

But to be honest, that shot still doesn't look like stop-motion to me. Is it possible Buzz animated the scene but it wasn't used and they opted for a guy in a suit instead? It's not an illogical or unreasonable possibility. The film did, after all, incorporate other techniques when called for, like the big mechanical bust and hand.

Why don't we ask Buzz himself? I mean, he posts regularly on this Board, so ...
